Leading through Coaching

Leading through Coaching is a programme to grow leaders who work in a new empowering way to achieve higher levels of performance through inspiring and engaging their people.

The programme combines a series of workshops tailored to address the particular leadership challenges of the business plus one to one coaching over a period of 6 to 12 months to ensure application of the learning to real work challenges.

The exact programme design is developed as the result of a needs analysis with a representative group of the company’s managers.

Coaching is important part of the leader’s repertoire of skills because:

  • Increased rate of change (so learning can be more important than knowing)
  • Changing expectations of employees (who want to be empowered, not just told)
  • Shift from old style leadership to new empowering leader (so coaching a key leadership skill) and gone are the days when effective managers will respond well to command and control style
  • Managing through uncertainty and dealing with ambiguity (in today’s business we cannot just apply yesterday’s answers)
  • Increasing need to manage people with different core skills to your own (where the manager adds value through asking questions rather than inputting)
  • Trend for more people to take responsibility for their own development and career progression, and they need to feel their managers are working along side them in this and enabling them to reach their full potential
  • Winning the war for talent requires that leaders learn the skills to engage, develop and retain their people
